Growing up in Bow, East London meant Jessica had seen it all; listening, as a teenager, to Wiley, Tinchy Stryder & Dizzee Rascal who all come from the same area. While a young Wiley and Dizzee were earning their musical chops somewhere not too far from her own bedroom, Jessica had to settle with listening to her CD’s. All she did was listen to and want to create music.
Following a short stint in girl band Parade, whose debut single charted at number 10, she decided to take a year out and just listen to the music that she loved again: loads of Bashment, Reggae and Grime. Writing an album about her own experiences, Jessica purposely sought out fresh, new and up & coming writers and producers to work with.
Taking a gamble and working solely by herself, Jessica managed to get track ‘Double’ played by the likes of DJ Target and CJ Beatz on BBC Radio 1Xtra as well as spins on Choice & Kiss FM.
‘Bam Bam’ is perhaps the most accurate representation of Jessica as an artist – the artist she has always strived to be, but it was the release of Part II featuring fellow Bow residents Manga & Scratchy from Roll Deep including a rap verse delivered by Jessica herself that caught the attention of the likes of MistaJam at BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra. So much so, the track earned a place on the 1Xtra playlist ahead of its release.
Jessica is currently in the studio working towards what will be her debut solo album.
